Ever since I 've moved back to California, I've realized I am in the minority. My pale skin and brown hair seems like a faux pas back in the Golden State. It never occured to me that when I was hiding indoors from those bleary NorEaster storms, that I was betraying my roots. But after four years of no Vitamin D, I'm paler and my roots darker than ever.Gone are the blond highlights I had encouraged with lemon juice and peroxide every summer as a kid in CA.
Either way I'm screwed. I'm either soaking up the rays and my moles are turning melanomic or the asbestos lined walls of the pre-war apt building is coating my lungs with a nice layer of mesothelioma.
